"RYAN LARSON: Now, we're go over how they analyze signs at the college level. You don't have to learn the section or this part of the segment but we want to show it to you just so you can get an idea of how it works. So you have this scale, right? One, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 1, and these are all different roots for different chords. So as we go through and read it, the way it's notated is they use roman numerals and uppercase [INDISCERNIBLE] and minor chords get lowercase. So you have I Major, ii minor, iii minor, IV Major, V Major, vi minor and vii minor. So those are the different chords we get out of the scales. We have our I Major chord, our ii minor chord, our iii minor chord, IV Major chord, V Major chord, vi minor chord and vii half-diminished chord. So go through and you don't have to memorize this thing down and you don't have to memorize that, all your two chords are minors or three are minors, pretty much that information will already be given to you. In the lead sheet you're reading, you will notice that all your B notes or B minors is out of the key of A, and all your E's or E7's is out of the key A major. So just to know their idea or way to approach the scale."
