"Hello! This is Portia again at bellymotions.com. We are going to introduce correct posture and then we are going to start warming up. First of all it is important to know that belly dance can help your posture or can hurt it. It’s very important that you really work on correct posture. Let us begin. First things first. Your feet should be below your hips, shoulder width apart, your knees should be soft and slightly bent. I am going to show you a side view. The main purpose here with our posture is to make sure we protect the lower back. We can do this by tucking in the pelvis, rotating the pelvis forward, so try that with me. We are going to tuck the pelvis in, rotating it forward. This is going to flatten your lower back, okay, protecting the lower spine. We are then going to lift your cage up, stretching our vertebrae and we are going to roll our shoulders back. Your spine should be long and lengthened. You should not be standing like a soldier. The knees are soft, tuck the pelvis in, lift the chest and roll the shoulders back. Always keep an apple under your chin and your hand in neutral position. "
