Series Summary

Are you a songwriter? Do you love to play music? Are you in a band? Well, there are a number of ways to get your songs recorded and out in the marketplace—or make copies for you and your friends. In the past, musicians polished their material over and over, until it was radio-worthy. Then they went into a professional studio to cut a demo or an album. Then, in a few years, there was an explosion of small home recording devices that could be purchased for a reasonable price. The profusion of material that was generated from this development was astounding. Now, in the next generation of the home recording saga, we have stepped into the Digital Age. Anyone with a computer, a bit of recording software, a USB interface, an instrument, and some patient ingenuity can make a recording that would border on professional quality.

In this free music recording software video tutorial, learn how to use plug-ins with Apple Logic Pro, one of the latest programs for bands and musicians. Our expert will explain how phasing and timing works in your mix. He will also demonstrate filters such as the vocal transformer and speech enhancer. Does your groove need shifting? If so, use the Logic Pro groove shifter plug-in to add some punch to your mix!

"What I'm going to do next in this last part four of this mixing tutorial, I'm going to actually explain some more plug ins that will help your tracks. These plug ins are within Logic and they're designed to help you achieve sounds that will help create a mix that you'll like. Now when using Logic, the first thing you want to do is know how to put these plug ins onto the track. You've got to make sure that you're familiar with the channel strip and the inspector. Now when looking at your screen, the inspector can be turned on on the top left hand side. You can turn it on and off. It's going to bring up two tracks, the main channel strip that you're working with as well as the final output channel strip which is your master channel strip. This channel strip controls all the tracks that you're working with. You can switch between the tracks within the mixer or within the arrange window. Now, within each track there is an insert panel where you can go in and choose between different types of inserts that you can use. These are all the inserts that I'll be explaining and this is how you can put them on. You can also copy them and move them using a grabber tool, which is the hand tool, as well as save settings and load settings for a later date."
