"Hi, this is Rhett Reiger from White Caspian Studios on behalf of Expert Village. Now a lot of directors in the past used storyboards extensively on shoots. That's because they found that it was just such an effective way of shooting efficiently. Now in the past couple of decades storyboarding has fallen by the wayside quite a bit and I'm not sure of the reason for that, except that storyboarders are artists and they can be expensive. But for the independent feature, saving money and shooting efficiently is vital. So I'm going to just show you a couple of things on storyboarding and why this is so important. The storyboard is basically a quick sketch. Now it can be a fully rendered sketch which looks like any kind of drawing, you know, from an artist, or it can be just a very quick blocking of where the actors are and where the camera is. And the reason this is so important is because it shows, not only a director on paper, what is happening but it also reveals, to the DP and the other members, like the actors and other crew members, what is actually happening on the screen."
