"Hi, this is Rhett Reiger from White Caspian Studios on behalf of Expert Village. The primary job for the director in preproduction is directing the script. I would also say creating the story. As the director, you have to find out, what the script is trying to say and what the writer is hoping to achieve by this movie having been made. What the theme is, what the sub-themes are, if there's symbolism, the director has to know all these things. So the director has to spend a significant amount of time studying the script, making notes, notating pages, notating different types of scenes, montages here, cut-aways there, any special things that need to be brought out very strongly in a script, the director, it is his or her job to do that for a movie. It's really not anybody else's. Now the guy who's shooting the, or running the camera, his job is to get the picture, but then again he's going to the director and saying, what are we trying to achieve here. So familiarity with the script is vital to a successful movie."
