"Now we're going to talk about overall compression of a song. Now what I suggest to do is when you're recording your song, put the compression on the overall mix. That should be one of the first things you do. Why? Because you want to add a compression over the overall song, but you don't want to add too much. But you want to do is when you're mixing is you want to hear how it's going to sound compressed. So many times you can mix your song without compression, that when you add compression it changes everything. Things start sounding louder, and things don't sound as loud. So what you want to do is before you really start digging into your mix, you want to put an overall compression on the mix. And so, when you're listening to it you can know how it's going to sound with compression on it and mix it accordingly. So that's just a tip that you want to do when you're making a song or when you're doing your mixes, add a little bit of overall compression to it, not too much. Listen carefully to make sure it's not distorted. A lot of time when you add compression to a song, it will start distorting. So you don't want to put too much of an amount of compression on a song. You just want to kind of barely put the compression where the kick is really starting to get compressed. But everything else is underneath that. But take your time, put your compression on there, and then start adjusting everything to the mix. Because sometimes when you put compression on it, it makes a lot of things sound louder than it should be. So bring the, put the compressor on it and then begin to start listening to it and mixing it accordingly."
