On behalf of Expert Village, my name is Rodney Lopez and this is my lovely partner Amelia Maldonado. We're here at Dance Manhattan Studios here in New York City, and today we're going to teach you the merengue. Let's see if we can sort of take this and put it together in a small combination. We'll start with the basic step. We'll rotate for a little bit and then we'll do a breakaway. We'll start with the basic step. 1, 2, 3, 4, rotate around, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 4. She goes under the arm; he goes under the arm. Now we'll separate for 4 counts, bring her back for 4 counts, wrap her up to the right, step in place for 4 counts, bring her back, step in place for 4 counts, wrap her up to the left, step in place for 4 counts, bring her back, come back to dance position, and we can just keep staying in place or continue our rotation clockwise in a rotating basic. This is a sample demonstration of what you can do with this dance once you've got some figures.
