"On behalf of Expert Village, my name is Rodney Lopez and this is my lovely partner Amelia Maldonado. We're here at Dance Manhattan Studios here in New York City, and today we're going to teach you the merengue. Now we need to talk about turning in the dance. We'll start with a simple lady's turn. We'll do everything in counts of 4, but since merengue really is based in multiples of 2, any multiple of 2 will work. We'll start with a 4 count turn. The lady is going to walk underneath the man's arm or clockwise. Gentlemen, you're going to raise your hand, you left hand that is, and she's going to walk under the bridge for 4 counts. 1, 2, 3, 4, and come back to dance position. Once again, the lady is dancing 4 steps starting with her right foot. 1, 2, 3, 4. Now gentleman, you can't just stand there and watch her as much as you may be tempted to do so. You want to make sure that your feet are moving the whole time. Gentlemen, you're going to just keep that engine going here on left, right, left, right, while the lady turns right, left, right, left. If we do a basic step first, we're going to go 1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 1, 2, 3, 4. That's a basic lady's turn. "
