"On behalf of Expert Village, my name is Rodney Lopez and this is my lovely partner Amelia Maldonado. We're here at Dance Manhattan Studios here in New York City, and today we're going to teach you the merengue. Ladies, this is going to be really cool. If you can really stay back into your man's right hand and really stay connected to him, then the better your partner gets at this turning basic. The more you'll be able to get a rotation. I'm taking slightly more vigorous steps with this basic, but I'm still going just left, right, left, right, left, right, left, right. I'm just picking up the pace by having a greater connection here with my partner in her arm and dance frame. I'm squeezing her a little bit towards me and she's giving me a little bit of resistance with her arms. That allows me to walk a little bit more briskly and to take her around a little bit faster. What you'll find is that in merengue, you can change the pace a lot. You can take little small steps that are sort of nice and quite and easy. Then after a while when you get better at it, you can sort of pick up the pace little bit and move her around in fewer steps. That's going to take some practice. Just get those basic steps down and you'll find moves like this becoming a lot easier. "
