"On behalf of Expert Village, my name is Rodney Lopez and this is my lovely partner Amelia Maldonado. We're here at Dance Manhattan Studios here in New York City, and today we're going to teach you the merengue. Once you've gotten the hang of doing this step in place, you can also do this step traveling. Gentlemen, once again, starting with your left foot. Ladies, starting with your right foot. What you're going to do is take this step and we're just going to go side, together, side, together, side, together, side, together. What's happening is our feet are opening and closing at the same time. Open, close, open, close, open, close, open, close. Amelia and I are demonstrating sort of doing this in circular pattern. Open, close, open, close, open, close. The idea is to take small steps. A lot of merengue music can be pretty fast, so what you want to do is take these steps sort of more on the smaller side than on the larger side. It allows you to get more hip action. Just make sure that we're just sort of opening and closing at the same time. "
