On behalf of Expert Village, my name is Rodney Lopez and I'm Amelia Maldonado. We're here at Dance Manhattan Studios here in New York City, and we're teaching you bachata. The first thing we have to get is the rhythm for the dance as well as the footwork. Bachata for the gentlemen is sort of left, right, left, and the right, left, right like so many other social dances. Ladies, you'll be doing right, left, right, left, right, left. The difference is sort of in that pause between both sets of steps. There's sort of a little lift in the hip. Some people dramatize this, they exaggerate it, and other people do it in a very subtle fashion. We're going to exaggerate it first just so you can see the actual steps and the hip action. I'm starting with my left foot and we're going sideways as Amelia goes to the right. We're going left, right, left, up, right, left, right, up. This is and exaggerated version of the basic step, but just know that on that space between left, right, left and right, left, right, there's sort of a little lift in the hip. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8.
