"Hi, my name is Paul Becker and I'm here to talk to you about accordions today on behalf of Expert Village. This section we will talk about the history of the accordion. The accordion is a free reed instrument the first free instruments were built in China, a instrument called the Sheng which is very like these metal reeds but they were lodged inside a wind instrument that look kind of like a over sized bassoon kind of thing. For many years those were the only free reeds much like the last several hundred years there have been instruments like the accordion. Another instrument that is related to this which people have for home organs they call it the deportative organ. Then starting in the 17th and 18th starting in the 18 and 19 century we started to see the precursor of the accordion came into it's true glory in the 1950s and unfortunately have had a fast declined since that time.
