"Hello! This is Paul Luis from Puppets n' Stuff puppets. You can find us on the worldwide web at www.puppetsnstuff.com. We are back and we are continuing with our basic puppeteer manipulation techniques, and we are now working with our gloved arm puppet. In this case, it is a little cute monster type of puppet over here; and as you can see, my left arm is in the left glove of the character and my right hand is in the puppet’s head, just like the other puppet. Now this could also be tricky. We are going back to that patting your head and rubbing your stomach comparison. Basically if the puppet is speaking…hello! Good to see you, how are you…you want to keep your hand moving as well. Okay? You don’t want to be doing this…hello! Good to see you…Some people actually do that. You want to have the left hand be completely separate from movement that you are doing with the head. Now there is some neat body language you can do when you have a character with a gloved arm. For instance, you can make him sulk, you can make him look kind of simple, you can make him get an idea, you can make him salute, you can make him yawn; a lot of neat things you can do with a gloved-arm puppet. Now in many cases, there is a second glove that a second puppeteer can operate, so that you can do the left arm or the right arm, depending if you are left handed or right handed, in the puppet’s head. But in this case, we have a one arm gloved puppet; and many characters like that exist on television and in theater and film. Okay? So keep practicing with your gloved-arm puppet."
