Writing a Monologue: Musical Theater Audition Tips

"On behalf of expertvillage.com, my name is Paul Louis and today I am going to give you musical theatre audition tips. Many times when you audition for a show, you may be asked to also do a monologue. For instance, they may ask for 16 bars of a particular song. They really never ask for the full song anyway. They usually ask for the first 16 bars or 32 bars but they also may want to monologue. Now choosing a monologue can be a lot of fun too because again, you get to do some research such as going to the library, go on the internet and check out some monologues from different plays, different musicals. Another nice thing you can do which I like to do is write your own monologues. When I used to teach children, I would have them write their own monologue. I was just blown away by the types of monologues they would come up with. These can be things that you experience personally; these can be things that you just write about that don’t pertain to your real life but it is an opportunity for you to be creative and definitely unique because no one else will have this particular monologue when you audition for that show.
