In this clip I'm going to discuss picks. Now you don't need a pick to play the guitar. As we saw earlier on the nylon string guitar you can simply use your fingers to pick the strings. However, if you're playing very fast or you want to have an attack to the sound, to make it a more solid contact, you would need one of these things. They are also called plectrums p e c t r u m. But the common name is a pick. Now there are all sorts of different sizes and shapes, but the important thing is thickness and the size. Some players prefer to use a very small pick such as this one here. So that you can grip it and there's not much in your hand. However you might also choose a pick of this size which is more traditional. This is the traditional size of a pick. We've got a little bit more to hold onto and you would pick from there. Now the other important aspect of a pick is the thickness and its flexibility. So you might have a pick that's somewhat thick and very hard to bend or you might have a very thin pick which is very easy to bend. And that's just preference from the player.
