"Now, another piece of gear that you'll need is a surge protector. Now this is important because, as I mentioned, if you have invested in a lot of very expensive equipment and you have it plugged in and your house gets struck by lightning over night it could fry everything if it's not protected by a surge protector. If you just plug it into the wall, any electrical currents from outside the house are going to go right through the wall and right into your equipment and completely fry it. Now, this is just a general power strip, which means it's go you know any number of three-prong outlets on it. A three-prong is at least a ground. That's a good start. That will keep the electrical current from getting too crazy in your instruments or rather through your amplifiers and therefore ruining the sound from your instrument. However, what you should really get is a surge protector that would have an additional small area over here that would say that it could stop a certain amount of impedance from electrical currents coming in so that if lightning struck, came through the wall, through the cable, it would stop here before it went into all your amplifiers."
