"PETER VAN DYCK: Here we're going to take a look at playing bass drum on beat one as well as the end of two and on beat four over the swing ride pattern. Let's check it out. One, two, three, four. This particular rhythm on the bass drum is well-known for its use in Louisiana style of playing specifically second line. I'll show you what I'm talking about a little bit to give you historical reference. When we speed this up and bring the ride cymbal back into the picture, it looks and sounds like this. One, two, a, one, two, three, four. "
