"Alright, let's take a look at the bossanova, developed in Brazil in the early sixties. It's really a slow samba, which we'll go over soon. Let's take a look at this bossa. Now let's break it down. We're playing an ostenato, which is a repeated pattern on the bass drum and the high hat. The and of four and one, the and of two and three together. Let's add eighth notes on the high hat. The variety of the bossa typically comes from different cross stick patterns on the snare. Let's look at a basic one. The best way for me to show this to you is probably just to slow it down. The trick is to figure out where the cross sticks lines up with our bass drum high hat ostenato. Really slowly now."
