"PETER VAN DYCK: Now, we're going to look at traditional grip. Traditional grip is different from match grip because in the left hand, instead of pinching the stick and wrapping our fingers around as in match grip, with the left hand we lay the stick across our hands. We slip it under the thumb and under the ring finger. Now, the tension in this grip where you balance the stick is really between the arc of the thumb and the middle finger. Put that together with the match grip on the right hand, traditional grip on the left hand. This is the traditional grip."
