"PETER VAN DYCK: So here's the pieces of your everyday drum set. Some drum sets have more than what we're looking at today; some have less. But these are the bare bones that drummers have used for over a century. We'll start with the bass drum. The lowest sound of the drum set. Next, we'll look at the snare drum which we play with our hands. If you noticed, the snare drum has two settings: snare on and snare off, which makes a more open sound. Next, we'll look at the toms. There's a high tom; that's usually racked on top of the bass drum. And a low tom, that's usually closer to the floor. Notice the high tom has a higher pitch than the low tom. Here we have the hi-hat. Now, the hi-hat is kind of interesting because you can play it four ways: close with the stick, open with the stick, close with the foot and open with the foot. And lastly, we have cymbals. Cymbals come in all sizes and depths, and each has a unique sound. Notice we can play the bell as well. And this is the drum set."
