"PETER VAN DYCK: Here is the flams rudiment. This entails one dominant stroke. We'll start with the right hand. Now, what we do to add to this single stroke to make it a flam is we have a secondary stroke with the opposite hand that hits slightly later creating a thicker sound. So first, my left hand hits with a small stroke. And immediately after, my right hand hits with the dominant stroke. To start, let's make the space rather big between each stroke. Do this until it's comfortable, and with the left hand as the dominant and the right hand as the small stroke."
