"PETER VAN DYCK: Our first rudiment that we're going to look at is the single-stroke roll. And these are singles. And the way we're going to practice this as a rudiment is painfully slow and then gradually speed up until just as fast as you feel comfortable playing it. Any faster and you might be doing yourself harm. So slow, right, left. And notice how at the end each stroke I return the tip of the stick to a position slightly above the head of the drum or the ready position."
