"Here we're going to talk about an effects loop, also an effects send, and effects return. The two aspects to an effects loop. Now what you could do, is you could take your guitar, you could plug it into an effects pedal, and then the pedal would go into the amplifier. Now what you would be doing is you get the sound of the guitar being modified by the pedal, and then you would get the amplifier sound. Now what an effects loop will allow you to do, is it will allow you to put the pre-amp, the, essentially the amplifier, before you get to the effect. So you would put the guitar into the amplifier, you would get the sound of the amplifier, then you would go into your effect. That effect on the floor would be now affecting both the guitar and the pre-amp. Then you would plug it back from the pedal, back into the amplifier."
