" For Expert Village this is Mitch Kaplan. In this clip we will be talking about the embellishment of a melody. Now, the first type like I had mentioned was the improvisation over melody. Let us take a song, this is called Shades Blue, something I wrote. We will take that much and now I am going to embellish upon it. I am going to show you just exactly how far they might go. Something like that, they take in the melody and they’ll fool around with it a little bit. That was very big especially in the big band era."
