" For expertvillage.com this is Mitch Kaplan. In this clip we will be talking about taking care of your clarinet and storing it away. Then other thing that is very important about maintaining about your instrument is boar’s oil. You should have this done if you have a wooden clarinet, and a wooden clarinet only; you do not want to put the oil in a plastic one, because it might slip out of your hands, do not want that happening. Now the thing that we do want to make sure though is that if we do have a wooden clarinet that the boar’s oil is put inside once or twice a year, and this prevents it from cracking, or from maybe moisture if it is kept in a moldy area. Keeping in step with that, it is important that you realize that where you keep your instrument is a very important factor. You do not want to leave your instrument in a car, because, let us say if your instrument is left in a cold environment, the pads could freeze and therefore fall off, the glue would become hardened and it could actually damage your pads. The next thing is that if it is very hot, in the other extreme, then it actually melts the glue and things start falling off, and sooner or later you are looking for all the materials on the floor, and that is not a good thing. And that is your care and maintenance for today. "
