" For expertvillage.com this is Mitch Kaplan. In this clip we will be talking about taking care of your clarinet and storing it away. The next thing that we need to talk about is reed maintenance. We have several types of reeds that we can purchase, and they get very expensive after a while, you want to learn to take care of your reeds. So certain companies give you little cases that you can use to keep your reeds in. There are plastic ones that are smaller ones, and these are actually better because they prevent the reed from breaking, and they are easier to take out. The next thing you should know is that you can get a sampler cleaning and care maintenance kit. This kit can also be purchased through a music store, and it comes with a brush, scrubbing brush that you can use for your mouthpiece and your barrel, it comes with cork grease, which you should only do once or twice and then put it aside for the rest of the time, every time you get new corking on your instrument. You should not do it more than that, because the cork actually becomes solidified with grease and the parts will fall off very easily. The next thing is, they also give you a swab inside. Now the swab, you would push through and pull it through, and then pull the swab all the way through the instrument, and that is about it with your care maintenance package. "
