Video Transcript

" On behalf of Expert Village I'm Nathan Bugh, and my talented student Shannon Sheroni. Were here at Dance Manhattan Studios in New York City, to teach you Balboa and other swing era dances. We are going to be looking at Balboa and other swing era dances. We are going to be looking at Balboa, Bal Swing Charleston and six-count swing. These are all swing era dances. They're related and they are all done to the same type of music and some share the same type of ancestor. The Charleston is the earliest and the Charleston gave birth to almost every American popular dance form. The swing era basically took place between 1920 and 1950, Charleston was a little earlier and predates big band swings. The other dances developed between the 30's and 40's when the big bands were swinging hard. The music told the dances what to do. Bands like Duke Ellington and Count Basie brought the steps down to the ground, instead of kicks we started stepping. We will look at all sorts of swing dances in this video presentation."
