"My name is Niall O'Leary from the Niall O'Leary School of Irish Dance in New York City and today I'm demonstrating beginner soft shoe Irish dance. If your at a party you might get to dance a Irish jig and people use the phrase Irish jig put they really mean a Irish dance and there is more then a jig. There is the jig, there is a dance called The Real, there is another dance called Slip Jig and there is a hearty dance called The Hornpipe and these are 4 different types of music so you can say all dancing is reacting to music. The Real is in 4-4 time 1,2,3,4,2,2,3,4, The Jig is 6-8 time 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,2,3,4,5,6, The Slip Jig is in 9-8 times 12,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,2,3,4, 5,6,78,9 and so on and The Hornpipe is slower 4-4 time 1,2,3,4,2,3,4 a little more staccato so there you have it four different kind of Irish dance Real, Jig, Slip Jig, and Hornpipe.
