"PAT LOUIS: On behalf Expert Village, I'm Pat Louis in Miami, Florida. And today, I'm going to show you some basic drum rhythms. The kind of song that a waltz would give you would be a 3/4 beat. That means, instead of 4/4 where it's one, two, three, four, you've got one, two, three, one, two, three. That would be something like this. Now, it doesn't really work with the high hat as much as it would with the hard ride cymbal. Bass drum is usually, and, one, two, three-and, one, two, three-and, one, two, three. The other beat can be either on the snare with a stick on the rim which is nice or you can actually use brushes which is even a softer feel. When you're doing something like "somewhere my love there will be songs to sing" and I'm doing two beats on the high hat and then there's also one beat that I accent on the snare. So you've got "somewhere my love there will be songs to sing". That's basically a waltz."
