" Hi everybody, Malik the magic guy for expertvillage.com. Now I want to teach you some playing card terminology that will be important when you’re learning magic from these videos and from other books and videos later on. So first this is called the card case, most of the time this is referred to it as the case not the box. When you pull out the deck this is considered the top of the deck right here, this is going to be considered the bottom of the deck when you’re holding it. This is also called the face of the deck because you’re looking at the fronts of the cards. This is the face of a card, this is called the back of a card. Now you’ll see references to short edges that’s these edges right here, long edges are these edges right here. Now you’ll also see references in the card magic literature to court cards or picture cards; this would be an example of a court picture card, the jacks, queens and kings and then everything else is considered a spot card or a number card. So those are some playing card terms that are going to be helpful for you when you’re learning card magic."
