Setting Up a Brand New Deck for Card Tricks

" Hi everybody! Malik the Magic Guy for expertvillage.com. So now I want to talk to you about what’s called the new deck setup. Now the ironically, part of this is actually not the new deck setup, but we were talking about ace through king. And one of the interesting pro-tips I can give you is bicycles, tallyhos and all other cards made by the U.S. Playing Card Company, they come in this sequence when you open them up, this is actually a brand new deck that we just opened. They’ll have your jokers in there, some advertising cards I throw away, but they’re going to go ace through king, ace through king and then they’re going to start going backwards, king through ace and king through ace. Now for the next trick I’m going to show you, this is almost okay. What we want to do is reverse this half of the deck, so the way we do that is deal these cards like this…now the ace is on top, we’re going to do the same thing with the diamonds, we’re going to put the diamonds on the clubs so that they’re alternating the spades on the bottom. And now we have ace through king, ace through king, and that’s how you get what most of the card books will call new deck setup from a new deck. So from here I’m going to teach you a cool trick to do with this. Basically all you do is you’re going to reverse count the bottom half of the deck, and make them so the cards are alternating red, black, red, black, and that’ll give you what the books call new deck setup from what truly is a new deck."
