on 8/2/2008 Hey man, I want to thank you so much for being the only findable bag pipe instructor on the internet that doesn't lead you to buying some kind of book. I am an incoming Rat at Virginia Military Institute, and I'm going to be in the VMI Marching Pipe Band. I just bought my chanter today, and you were the only way I could possibly learn to make a note on that thing. Thanks so much for taking the time to do this for us aspiring pipers.

" Hi! I am Mike Oberst with expertvillage.com., the bagpipe instructor. This instrument next is called the practice chanter and this is what all beginners will use to learn the great highland bagpipes. It is not uncommon for a beginner to use only a practice chanter for the first two years of beginning to learn the great highland bagpipes. A practice chanter is great. Is actually essential to learn your tunes and the grace notes and scales and all the beginning elements of playing before you add the technical issues of the bag and the drones. So this is what all students will see for a really long time before they actually even play anything on a highland bagpipe."
