"Hi I'm Mario Amaya and on behalf of Expert Village and in this segment I will like to talk to a bit about using bar chords in flamenco guitar playing. Well a bar chord is where we take a chord pattern that is used in the first position and we recreate that same pattern but not using the index finger and we move it up the finger board using the index finger in place of the nut or the capo of the guitar. When you use the index finger to bar a chord it obviously have to press down the strings in the fret but it is not important that it comes up just to the top to the 6th string or just to the top of the finger board. It could hang over the finger board a little bit. Sometimes if we don't need to hold down the 6th string we might just cover the first 5 strings or the first 4 strings or the first 3 strings, they are all different kinds of bar chords. So don't worry about your finger looking like it is in a pretty position, the important thing is to hold the strings down while. If you ever have the chance you may want to reinforce the index finger with the middle finger like in this chord I'm doing that, I'm using my middle finger to help left finger. That is not cheating, that is just the best thing to do in a situation. Please see the next segment where what I say about using slides in flamenco."
