"Hi I'm Mario Amaya and on behalf of Expert Village in this segment I'm going to talk to you about the one finger Rasgueado in flamenco guitar playing. The Rasgueado or strumming technique it actually means scratching in Spanish. It is kind of like flicking a piece of dust off of something with your index finger like this. That is exactly the motion only the thing is we play a chord that way striking the strings not slowly strumming the strings but actually striking and we also come back up sometimes. (playing) And you may notice that I'm resting my thumb lightly on the 6th string and just striking the remaining 5 string and that is perfectly fine if you want to hit those strings. You can also lift up the thumb and hit all 6 strings like that and when you come up with the finger usually on the off beat you don't want to try to hit all the strings just like the 3 highest strings approximately But it is really not important to try to hit all the strings on every stroke in either direction you don't want to it would be a unnatural kind of sound. So that is the one finger Rasgueado using the index finger please see the next segment where I will talk about using the middle finger in 1 or 2 finger Rasgueados."
