Series Summary

Magic is an art of illusion, a practice in deception, a training in trickery. Men have been entertaining, deceiving, or swindling crowds throughout history with feats of prestidigitation, decorated with salesmanship, dramatic effect, confidence, and charisma. Cloaked in secrecy and sworn to protect the techniques of their art, modern magicians are a close knit group of skilled entertainers who use illusion to remind us to look beyond appearances.

It is generally accepted today that there is nothing supernatural about magic; in essence, a magician is skillfully conjuring the appearance of true magic through sleight of hand, misdirection, and cunning. This is why many magicians call themselves "illusionists," embracing the idea that the audience enjoys the trick because they do not know how such an amazing feat could have been performed by natural means.

In this free video series, watch as the Chancellor of Magic, Lord Geoffrey M. Sadowski teaches how to prepare for a magic act. Learn how to develop your introduction and persona, how to use body talk and hand motions, and how to do various tricks like the coin trick and misdirection. Let the experts from ExpertVillage guide you through the world of magic and illusion with these step by step magic lessons.

Video Transcript

"Hello. My name is Geoffrey M. Sadowski. I'm a magician. My stage name is Lord Geoffrey M. Sadowski, Chancellor of Magic. I'm here on behalf of Expert Village to show you a little bit of magic. What I can't emphasize enough is always practice your effects. Make sure that you're top notch. Make sure that you've got everything down pat, your patter. Patter would be your little story that you tell with it. You could just basically tell a story about the coin being magical. You could say a story about how the silk is magical. You could tie the two things in. It's all up to you in how you do your presentation. And whenever you're displaying things, always hold pause. That's the biggest thing I can always say. So let things sink in. A hurried performance is, it doesn't look that magical, you have to be slow. And with your patter, your story, always try to make something fun that everybody can relate to. "
