"Hi! My name is Larry Hammel, singer, songwriter, engineer and producer of Deep Waves Studio here in New York City and on behalf of Expert Village, I would like to welcome you to how to produce a recording artist. In a mix, the most important element as we mentioned before is the vocal. It is what brings forth the emotion and what the listener endears itself to. In a digital audio workstation like we have over here, we have plug-ins that we can use to bring out some of the proper elements and proper character that we are looking for in the mix. Compressors and EQs and things like that are thing we use to bring out the vocal and have it sit within the mix. So it does its thing and what we want it to do. Let's go to the screen and I'll show you. We are going to insert a plug-in right after the vocal. What we are starting with here is a compressor and hit the compressor. What that does now is bring out some of the elements in the vocal as we did before. It is another stage of compression. We can put EQs in there, we can add reverbs and various things like that. All these things help enhance and bring out the vocal, have it sit in the mix so that the listener can hear the emotion coming through."
