"I am a professional guitar instructor and today we will be discussing intermediate jazz guitar. Okay next after we have completed ending #2, the 8 measures of B flat and major 7, we see 2 measures of D7, 8 beats of D7 chord. Now what is D7 to the key of B flat. Well it's not in the key of B flat off hand. The only dominant 7 chord that we typically have in the key of B flat is the F 7 chord; that's my 5 chord. We got a dominant 7 chord here, so we know for a fact that it is the 5 of something. What is D the 5th of? An easy way to figure that out is to go to D, find a D note and determine what is the 4th of D. Well the 4th of D is a G note. Well if you go to a G note, 1,2,3,4,5 and go to the 5th of it, it is D. So when you have a 5th and flip it upside down, it becomes a 4th, right? So the 4th of D is G, the 5th of G is D. So it is an easy way to determine when you are looking at a dominant 7 chord, what is the 5th note. You go to the 4th of it and it is the 5th of that. So we have it as being the 5th of a G. What is G to the key of B flat. Well if you look up there and my chord progression, the 6th chord is my minor 6 chord. So how D7 would be explained here it would be the 5,7, 5 dominant 7 of 6 minor 7. You can see here in the chart where I have that written as the 5, 7/6 minor 7, the 5 of 6."
