" Hi! My name is John Armstrong with expertvillage.com. I'm a professional guitar instructor and today we are going to be studying beginning jazz guitar. Next I would like to discuss minor triads, or minor chords. Just like major chords we have the roots of the 3rd and the 5th but what is different is that we lower the 3rd, we flatten the 3rd note so it is the root of flatted 3rd and 5th. So for example if I was to have an A major triad which is a C sharp and E A, C sharp an E, an A major chord A. For example this open position A major A, E, A, C sharp and E, root 5th, root 3rd, 5th. Taking the C sharp and moving it back a flat E, gives me a A minor chord. For example is a D major chord, just an open position D major, taking the 3rd note here the F sharp. We have D, F sharp and A. Take the 3rd and flat it we have a D minor chord. E major triad, e major chord. Here's my G sharp, here's my 3rd. We have E, G sharp and E. My 3rd is my G sharp which is right here. E major, flat the G sharp to a G natural and we have an open position E minor chord. "
