"Subject matter of an independent film can be anything. But, if you're doing an independent film and you don't have any name actors in it, because generally, you're going to be using local actors, people from local theater group or whatever. You have unknowns in it. So, if you do a drama, if you do a comedy, those are the two things that are hardest to sell, if your intention is to sell this to a distributor and get it out into the video stores. Comedies and dramas are the hardest things to do and get them sold. But, if you do like a science fiction or a horror movie, and I've done twenty horror movies and science fiction films, more likely chance to get those distributed and also seen by people, because fans of horror and science fiction, they'll rent it out because of what the movie is about. If it's about aliens, or vampires, or werewolves, or whatever, they're interested in the subject as opposed to you go into a video store and renting out a Hollywood movie because Kevin Costner is in it, or Julia Roberts is in it. You're renting it out because of the actor. So, with independent films, it's the opposite. You've got to have a good subject. You have to have a good story."
