How to Act as a Latin Character

Series Summary

Acting is the work of an actor or actress, which is a person in theatre, television, film, or any other storytelling medium who tells the story by portraying a character and, usually, speaking or singing the written text. Well-rounded actors are often also skilled in singing, dancing, emotional expressiveness, imitating dialects and accents, improvisation, observation and emulation, mime, stage combat, and performing classic texts. Many actors train at length in special programs or colleges to develop these skills, which have a wide range of different artistic philosophies and training processes.

One medium of acting is the one-person performance. In this free video series, an actress and one-woman performer will teach you how to give an acting performance as a Carmen Miranda-like Latin character. From acting tips to picking out music and props, you'll learn everything about Latin characters. You'll also learn how to find an acting studio, rehearse, and how to do the character's makeup and hair. Soon, you'll be ready to promote and perform your own one-woman show!

"Hi, my name is Kat Litrenta and I'm a professional entertainer and I'm so glad you could be here today with me at Expert Village. I'd like to show you how to be a one-person show. Have you seen a one-person show, maybe in a theater or at a fest and you say to yourself, "gee, you know that looks like so much fun. I bet you I could do that."? Well, maybe you can and it is fun. But it's a lot of work. But, I could show you how to do it from top to bottom. Let's say you'd like to do a Latin show. Oh, I have so much fun doing my Latin show. And I mean you could go out and get flamenco dancing lessons, but this is going to be a lot faster and a lot cheaper. How much fun is it to put on a Latin accent and put a fruit on your head and a dress especial with a ruffles. If you're good at a little bit of an accent, that only adds to the flavor. You're going to have a lot of fun with this one. Stick around."
