" Hi! My name is Ken Marcou and I’m going to talk a little bit about using things other than sticks to get different types of sounds. These are called power brushes or wood whack sticks according to whoever makes these things and actually right on the stick they say multi-tone because they are basically small pieces of wood bound together and you can move this sliding devise up and down so that there’s more or less tension in the sticks bound together and that gives you different types of tones. You can use the sticks and actual drum sticks to get different types of tones in really anything, the way you stick the cymbal or the drum has a lot to with the way it sounds but this is another devise that you can use to get a less abrasive sound and you know it sounds a little bit more pretty, it’s kind of a special effect but not necessarily so. I’m going to play a section of a song that is played with sticks just to demonstrate the difference…now my wood whack sticks are taped up more than they are you know shipped from the manufacturer, I done that because I’ve used them as stick replacements recently but the effect is still the same they’re just a little bit more definitive sounding than would otherwise be the case."
