You could contact me at michiganhighlanddance.com and in this clip I will be talking about and demonstrating the history of this sword and the basic movements of the sword dance. Another version of the pa de bas that we would do in this dance is called the close pa de bas. It is done exactly the same way as the extended pa da bas only instead of standing in front your will lift it up with a slight with a relaxation of the knee. So when you relax your knee jumping over executing a pa da bas again. The next step of pa de bas that we would be executed in this dance is called a open pa de bas. A open pa de bas is placed in forth and fifth open position which is where the working foot is placed on the half point in front of the supporting foot and the toe, heel of the working foot right here is a line with the heel of the pointing foot. You will jump over placing the working foot and fifth beating the back foot and the arms for this step are in third position. To execute a series of these you will dance it like this. The last movement that I'm going to talk about are high cuts. You dance high cuts in first step of the sword and when you dance them you dance them after a assemble disassemble. You will execute an extended pa de bas; you will extend your left foot; assemble with both feet and this disassemble, taking the right foot to third rear aerial. Arms will go to third position and you would execute a high cut. A high cut is done with a beating of the back foot reextending the knee. You will do this on each side and just as the fling you would also have to do an introduction or a bow. We will use the same bow that we did in the fling we just execute it by a 6 count bow counting 1,2,3,4,5,6.
