Word choice and usage is another super important thing to look at when you are editing your own work, whether it's an email to a colleague or a cover letter or anything that you are writing. You always want to ask yourself who your audience is and what's going to make the most sense to them. So when you are rereading your document think does this language, does this sentence make sense to who I am trying to get my message across to. For instance if you are a college student and you are writing to an editor to get an internship, you don't want to use the slang that you are using with your college friends. You want to use something that makes sense to them and makes you sound professional. The same if you are already working full time and you are writing a letter to your colleague you can use your specialized jargon because you work in the same company and probably know what you are talking about. But if you are sending something to a client outside your company you want to make sure you tone down the language so that you are speaking on the same level.
