"Hey there my name is Bill Cotterell on behalf of Expert Village, I like to show you the fundamentals of charcoal drawing. What I like to do now is show you that it's very necessarily in different types of rendering that you want to begin with sort of a rough concept of how this is going to look on paper. Very lightly sketch out your boat if that's what you're going to draw. In this case I'm drawing a boat so I'm going to draw a quick outline, that I can use in sort of a launch point. Then I'll carry the rest of the rendering once I've gotten this part done so at least I'll know how much it's going to take up on the paper. This can be done in charcoal, in pencil, it can be done in any utensil, but the idea here is just to have something in an outline form. So once you start adding charcoal to it you'll know where you're going to land."
