"Hey there my name is Bill Cotterell on behalf of Expert Village, I like to show you the fundamentals of charcoal drawing. So then that moves us into choosing our subject. Choosing a subject is pretty much of your discretion of course you're going to have to figure in different things like paper, utensils, lighting, all when picking a subject that you want to enhance certain qualities of that particular subject. What we're going to work on today what I've done is a boat, it's actually a sailboat on water, and it carries reflective qualities so that some of that tones can be easily smooth on any type texture of paper which makes it ideal for charcoal drawing. Charcoal drawings need to have a smooth transition between shadows, dark shadows and of course highlighted areas. In between your papers will carry neutral tones which means you don't have to always fill in that in with your charcoal. "
