"Hey there my name is Bill Cotterell on behalf of Expert Village, I like to show you the fundamentals of charcoal drawing. What I like to talk about now are the various types of paper that you can use for different types of effects in charcoal drawing. As you can see in this first one it has an extremely modeled surface meaning it has some bumps and ridges which depending on how you're looking for what you're looking for in drawing. It will keep a very nice texture so that it has a canvass look, and next you can see that this surface has a quite a bit thicker in weight so it will be a little more durable, as far as being moved around. But the paper itself has horizontal ridges that run throughout their fiber. So it will carry a different texture and look all together, and now we're going to move to some smoother paper; this one here has ridges that run towards horizontal or vertical depending on how you draw on your paper. But this one here will be a little bit smoother, it still carries it's ridges but it also has a very nice effect when you put charcoal. This paper here is probably the smoothest yet, it has a very nice surface and it's color of course some of neutral that you can add in highlights with your highlight pencils when you want. As well it carries all of your shading, and this last paper is the smoothest of all it's a very, very smooth surface putting any sort of shading into it. Smoothing it out it have a very nice and a very settled tone change so if you're looking for that type of work the smoother the better for your paper."
