"Hi, my name is Sean Beck at Mom's Tattoo’s in Wilmington, North Carolina on behalf of Expert Village here to tell you a little bit about tattoo aftercare. Alright, I am going to tell you about plastic wrap, saran wraps, things like that. At night time when you go to bed your tattoo is gonna be leaking and you can't maintain it while you're asleep. There's good chances of sticking to sheets or sticking to your shirts. We recommend using saran wrap and wrapping it on the surface of your tattoo. This way it doesn't stick to anything, it will keep it moisturized. If you do find yourself sticking to your sheets and you are not using saran wrap you definitely do not want to peel that off. It is dry and stuck to your skin. You don't want to peel that off. You want to take that go to the bathroom get it nice and soaking wet it will fall off really nice. Easy way to not have that happen is to put saran wrap on your tattoo at night. I usually recommend this for probably the first 4 or 5 nights. Smaller tattoos like very small tattoos not usually a big deal, but these larger pieces that people are getting now days a big thing because you can make a big mess if you don't wrap it up. Also with the saran wrap if you work a job where you get a lot of dirt and work around a lot of dirty things and get a lot of contact to other things wrap your tattoo in that. The big thing is during the day make sure you maintain and wash it. The saran wrap is good but it can cause a lot of heat rash if you don't let your skin breathe. So the saran wrap is good at night, it is good if you have job you can't expose your tattoo out in the open, other than that you probably want to let your tattoo breathe a little air is good for it."

on 2/5/2009 Never cover a Tattoo in plastic the tattoo is a wound! The tattoo needs air to heal. If you are concerned about your clothing or your sheets cover it with a non-stick gauze wrap.Keep it moist with Tattoo Goo if not that DESITIN works just as well,if your inker wants to put that plastic wrap on you run don't get your ink done there. Here is a link that explains why better than I can. http://tattoo.about.com/od/tattoosafety/a/plasticwrap.htm
