How to Transfer Photos With a Light Box: Pt. 1

"Hi, I'm Sue Rose with Expert Village and today we're talking about the many uses of a light box. I showed you how I use it to do my slides for doing show, how I do it to transfer my art work from poster board to the water color paper itself, and today I'm going to show you how you can take photos and use them to make a composition. One of the things that was very important for artists to know is that you do not copy things that you see in a magazine or in the news paper. So, these are photos that I took when I was in Canada at Butchart gardens, with my own camera, and printed them off on my computer and now I'm going to take them and I'm going to transfer these two flowers here into my composition. Often times if my composition is not clear I will go over the outline of these flowers with a sharpie or magic marker. But, today I'm going to take this one and I'm going to do several of these on the same piece of paper. Any time, in painting, the magic numbers are one, three, five, or seven, you don't want two, four, or six. So, I'm going to put three of these spider lilies on here. I'm going to put this under the paper, and get up here further in the corner, and the nice thing is you can move it around and then I'm going to take my artist pencil and begin tracing the lily. Make sure that you have a soft touch. All you want to do when you trace this is just copy the outline of what you do because you can go back in later with your paintbrush, and the picture, that you have taken yourself and add the color and the detail to the flowers. So, I have just about finished this one flower here, and it has kind of a seam here but I'm just going to do a little rough edges. Now, that's how it's done. I'm going to determine where I want to do the other flower. I do not want too much a diagonal and I'm going to have to add some leaves in the background. So, I think maybe I'll do one here and one here. So, I'm going to start here with my next flower and do the same thing again. Just a rough outline of my flower by copying from the light box.
