Video: How to Paint a Background with Aquarelle Watercolor Pencils

And we have done our sky and our water on this aquarelle pencil painting and now we're going to do the hill here in the background. Remember were leaving the white for our sail on the sailboat this time I'm switching to my number10 brush because I have a little bit more smaller areas that cover and I want to be sure and leave the white on my paper for my sails. So I'm going to start up here on top of the hill with my green now in an earlier segment I spoke about hard and soft edges. Soft edges are when one thing blends into the other we certainly don't want any soft edges on our sailboat we want nice white crisp lines for the boat. But we will have a soft edge when we get to the horizon line so that the water and the grand all blends in with each other. So I'm continuing with my green bring it all down leaving hard lines to show the white for the sail I'll blob this a little here. And a hard edge here and a hard edge at the top of this sail all these sails okay, we're going to bring it all down. Finish getting the whole area covered here and you can scrub with your aquarelle pencil which I don't advice to do in watercolor. But you can scrub and as I mentioned earlier sometimes you want to leave some of the pencil mark showing to get a texture effect. So now that I got everything covered with the water I'm going to go across here with the horizontal lines, cover this area with horizontal line coming right to the edge of my white sail, but then I'm going to come down to where the water and the ground meet. And I'm going to take and soften that edge, I'm going to put clear water on my brush, blob it a little bit and then I'm going to have just a little of that green blend in with the water here, so that I have a real soft edge here that it kind of all comes a flows in. Cause there will be a reflection from the hill onto the water and I want to bring that on down with me and you see how I'm working here and I just might take my brush up here with a little green and pick it up and add a little streak of green here in my water as well. Just here with my green that I did on a little streak of green in the water here, stay tune for the next segment and we'll do the details on our boat.
