"Hi, I am Tamal Bhattacharya speaking on behalf of Expert Village. After making my clay slabs I am ready to start the process for firing them. Prior to firing I will let my slabs dry naturally. This will take a long time and it will take even longer if the weather is damp. You should not use any type of artificial drying method to speed this part of the process. The use of artificial drying methods could cause the slabs to crack during firing. Arrange your slabs in the furnace in a manner that allows the heat from the flame to circulate freely. Separate your slabs with props made for high temperatures. Place a prop at each corner of the slab. Continue stacking slabs using props to maintain proper gaps for circulation. Close and secure the furnace door. On the furnace door is a view finder. Close or cover the view finder. Failure to do so will result in significant heat loss. Light the furnace to begin the firing process. Firing will take 9 to 10 hours. Thank you."
